Opening day for liquor sales generates a whopping Rs. 13.78 crores in Coimbatore district
Coimbatore: A whopping Rs.13.78 crores was generated on a single day, Monday, even as TASMAC stores opened up to the public in Coimbatore district.
TASMAC stores across Tamil Nadu have been closed since May due to the second wave of Covid-19 that had severely impacted the state. Except for 11 districts which included Coimbatore, Erode and Tirupur, TASMAC stores were opened in other districts a few weeks ago. Following this, the Tamil Nadu Government eased restrictions by announcing uniform relaxations. A total of 293 TASMAC stores were opened on Monday, including 158 stores in the north zone and 135 stores in the south zone of Coimbatore district.
A TASMAC official said, "On an average, 293 Tasmac stores in Coimbatore district sell liquor worth upto Rs. 7 crores a day. But since the TASMAC stores reopened after 55 days in Coimbatore district, in a single day yesterday, Rs. 7,25,00,000 was collected in 158 stores in north zone and in south zone, and in 135 liquor stores Rs. 6,53,00,000 was collected, totalling to a whopping Rs 13.75 crores of liquor sales on Monday."
