What are the guidelines to be followed for passengers at Coimbatore Airport? Here’s all you need to know!

Coimbatore: The number of flights operating at Coimbatore International Airport has dropped significantly due to the second wave of coronavirus pandemic. It used to operate more than 30 flights a day, but has now dropped to 5 a day.

The government has implemented various relaxations in the lockdown imposed in the wake of the declining spread of coronavirus infection. As a result, few of the suspended airlines have resumed flights. Thus the number of flights operated at Coimbatore Airport is expected to gradually increase in the coming weeks.

Commenting on the guidelines to be followed by passengers using Coimbatore Airport in today's scenario, Airport sources said, "All passengers arriving and departing at Coimbatore Airport by domestic and foreign flights should have a negative 'RT PCR' test taken within 24 hours prior to departure. After landing in Coimbatore, each passenger will undergo a body temperature test at the airport and will be sent for immediate treatment with the help of health officials.

An 'RT PCR' test will be performed at the airport for those with mild symptoms. All passenger details are constantly collected and monitored. Strict procedures such as forced isolation and isolation for a few days in hostels carried out during the first wave of the last outbreak are not currently being followed. However, health officials have been monitoring travelers from overseas by obtaining their details and advising them to isolate themselves at home."

The requirement to register online (E Registration) to travel from Coimbatore to various districts of Tamil Nadu has been relaxed from today. Tourists are not allowed to visit hill station areas including Nilgiris, Valparai and Kodaikanal. However it is necessary to get an 'e-pass' to go to travelers who live or are native to those areas.

What are the routes for passengers departing from Coimbatore by air?

Similarly, travelers traveling from Coimbatore to various cities in the country should have a RT PCR test taken 24 hours prior. Apart from the states where they are going, they have to follow the guidelines laid down by the state government which will be informed at the time of booking the tickets. The international airline operates flights from Coimbatore to Singapore, Sri Lanka and Sharjah. However, Air Arabia currently operates flights between Coimbatore and Sharjah only. That too is operated only once or twice a week. Passengers are only allowed to fly to Coimbatore on those flights. Passengers are not allowed on flights departing from here.

Currently, the UAE government allows only those who have been vaccinated with both doses and have the relevant documents. However, it is not yet clear whether those who took covaxin, the highest priced vaccine in India, will be recognized. As a result, passengers were not allowed to board the flight from Coimbatore to Sharjah. Passengers may be allowed to board the flight in the coming days with new rules in place.
