Over 300 temple priests in rural areas file petition at Pollachi Collectorate requesting TN Chief Minister to provide Covid relief assistance
Coimbatore: There are hundreds of rural temples in and around Pollachi. More than 300 priests and staff work in these temples. With temples closed due to Covid-19 lockdown, priests and staff have reportedly lost their livelihood. A relief amount of Rs. 4,000 and groceries were provided to the staff and priests controlled by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. Over 300 village temple priests filed a petition at the Pollachi Collectorate on Monday, demanding the same for those who lost their livelihood during the pandemic period.
The priests urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin to initiate action to provide Government relief and welfare assistance to those who have lost their livelihood due to the closure of temples in rural areas for two months.
