Digital rain gauges to be set up at 3 locations in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Digital rain gauges are to be installed at 3 new locations in Coimbatore district according to a district administration official.
Rain gauges have been installed at 14 places across the district to ascertain the amount of rainfall in Coimbatore district. Digital rain gauges are currently planned to be installed at 3 additional locations. In addition, efforts are being made to set up a seismograph in Coimbatore to detect earthquakes. Presently, the Coimbatore administration has to ask for information about earthquakes that is currently being reported in the Seismograph in Palakkad, Kerala.
"Coimbatore district currently has rain gauges atAnnur, Coimbatore Airport, Agricultural University Campus, Periyanaickenpalayam, Coimbatore South, Mettupalayam, Aliyar, Pollachi, Sulur, Chinnakallar, Cinchona, Sholayar, Valparai and BAP Valparai taluk. In a few places, there is a rain gauge in the office of the Sub-registrar. Steps are being taken to transfer this to the Tahshildar's office.
In addition, it has been decided to install rain gauges at Perur, Madukkarai and Anaimalai. A digital rain gauge is to be set up here. A letter has been sent to the Chennai office regarding this. In addition, a letter has been sent asking for a seismograph to find out about the quakes," stated a district administration official.
