Sapling planting program held at Podanur Chettipalayam and Sri Sakthi Matriculation High School, Atreya School for Excellence in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: A sapling planting program was held on Monday at Podanur Chettipalayam, Sri Sakthi Matriculation High School, Atreya School for Excellence.
Iyarkai Foundation, a voluntary charity, in association with HDFC Bank, donated about 100 saplings.
School trustees Shanmugasundaram, Natarajan, Radhamani and Treasurer Jyotimani planted saplings.
Neem, Pungan, Poovarasu, Iluppai, Jamun and Mahilam sapling varieties were planted in the playground.
School Trustee Radhamani who spoke at the event said, "School students are taking classes from home due to Coronavirus pandemic. We enjoy planting trees that give them shade to play. Every student is urged to grow a tree at home."
Vinodraj, Founder of the Iyarkai Foundation said, "Air pollution is on the rise and forest cover is declining. The impact of Coronavirus on oxygen deficiency has caused awareness among the people. He said that if we grow fruit trees along with trees for shade, the environment will be conducive for the survival of birds and also help in biodiversity."
HDFC Mettupalayam Road. Manager Naresh Kumar and staff, Kasturi B.Ed. College Principal Radhakrishnan, Government Arts College Teacher Yuvraj, Film Supporting Actor Loganathan, Avera Agro Company Founder Kasturi, Iyarkkai Foundation Coordinators Jesin, Jones, Arulkumar and many others were present.
