Evasive wild elephant Shankar released from Kraal after four months of training
Coimbatore: The evasive wild elephant Shankar has been released from Mudumalai Tiger Reserve after four and a half months of training revealed sources from the Forest Department.
The evasive wild elephant was captured by the Forest Department in February, in Cherampudi in Pandalur with the help of ropes and later tranquilized. Sources revealed that the animal was tranquilized for allegedly killing three people in the Gudalur forest division. They also added that it has been a huge task for them to capture the elephant since it had fled to the Kerala forest division. Four Kumki elephants named Kalim, Vijay, Srinivasan and Sujay aided the capture of the wild elephant.
All four Kumkis were brought from the Theppakadu camp to the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.
Since then, the wild elephant Shankar was being trained inside the Krall to be tamed.
However, after four and a half months of training, the elephant has now been set free from the Krall.
Sources also added that though the animal was released from the Krall, its movement will be monitored by the Forest Department officials.
