Mentally ill woman rescued and sent to a home by Vadavalli police
Coimbatore: Police have rescued a woman who was wandering about mentally ill in the Vadavalli area of Coimbatore and handed her over to a safe house.
The Vadavalli police station immediately sent Alpha Petrol guards and female guards to investigate after receiving information that a woman was wandering near the foothills of the Maruthamalai hill near the Vadavalli police station and had wandered around unaware of the surroundings and herself and did not talk to anyone. As she did not give any information and did not eat the food, police contacted the Anti-Trafficking Unit and contacted volunteers through the Helping Hearts @ ECRC (Emergency Care and Rescue Center). Police handed her over to them and returned.
She has been admitted to the Helping Hearts @ ECRC, which operates out of the old municipality building in Mettupalayam, which operates under the Coimbatore district administration. After going therewhen she was interrogated she said that her name was Gitanjali, 20, her father's name was Govindan and his mother's name was Namitha. Police said she declined to say where she was from.
