District Collector Sameeran announces that 'Uzhavar Sandhai' across the district is operational from July 1
Coimbatore: Amidst the lockdown imposed by the State to curb Covid-19 from spreading further, shops and various other establishments in Coimbatore district too were shut to ensure strict adherence to safety measures.
The Coimbatore District Collector in a press release issued on Wednesday evening stated that all the 'Uzhavar Sandhai' that were operational earlier in the district will resume operations from Thursday since Covid-19 cases are declining.
"All the 'Uzhavar Sandhai' in Coimbatore have been closed since May 10 due to the spread of Covid-19 and the Corporation has been selling essentials to consumers through carts. Uzhavar Sandhai is reopening with restrictions from today. Farmers registered at the Uzhavar Sandhai can trade on alternate days by mandatorily adhering to all Covid safety protocols like wearing of masks and adhering to social distancing," stated the Collector in the press release.
The District Collector has also stated that only 50 percent of stalls should be allocated and consumers must adhere to all Covid-19 prevention rules. He has also mentioned in the press release that committees will be set up by the Department of Agriculture to monitor this and that it was the responsibility of the farmer market management to ensure that all rules are followed.
