Class 10 student ends life tragically due to low marks.
Coimbatore: Maruthupandi (48) is from the Avarampalayam Ramasamy temple area in Coimbatore. His daughter Yazhini (15) was a Class 10 student in Siddapudur Municipal School.
Last year, owing to the Covid lockdown, schools did not function and lessons were taught only through online classes. Since board exams have not been held this year, everyone was promoted and mark certificates weere issued. On tuesday afternoon, Yazhini collected her marks certificate from her school in Siddapudur and returned home.
Yazhini was shocked to find that her overall marks score was too low. Having aimed to score higher marks in the Board exams, Yazhini became depressed and cried to her parents that others would make fun of her marks. Though Yazhini's parents reassured her, she reportedly went to the bathroom and hung herself when no one was at home on Tuesday evening. When Yazhini had not stepped out of bathroom for a long period of time, her parents broke open the door and were shocked to find her body hanging.
A complaint was lodged with the Peelamedu Police and they rushed to the spot. Yazhini's body was recovered and sent to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy. The case is being investigated. Residents in the city were shocked and saddened at the news of a young life lost owing to low marks in exams.
