Sylendra Babu appointed as TN's 30th Law and Order DGP; Inspires youth with his own fitness goals
Coimbatore: Sylendra Babu has been appointed as the Tamil Nadu Law and Order DGP. Sylendra Babu who has been encouraging youth through his daily programs to ensure fitness goals will take charge as the new Law and Order DGP in Tamil Nadu.
He believes that questions are more important than answers in life and hence took to convincing youth on every platform that he was a speaker on, that questions bring about big changes in life.
Sylendra Babu was born on June 5, 1962 in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. He later completed his B.Sc. in Agriculture from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural College, Madurai and his Master's degree in Demography from the Annamalai University. He also holds a Ph.D in Analyzing Missing Children from the University of Chennai. He later earned a Master's Degree (MBA) in Human Resources. After this he was selected as an IPS officer in the Tamil Nadu cadre in 1987.
He first started his career as an ASP in Dharmapuri district. He later worked in Cuddalore and Ramanathapuram districts, and moved on to working in various departments such as bribery, prisons and fire. He was appointed as IG of the Special Task Force set up to nab Veerappan, the sandalwood smuggler.
Sylendra Babu was known for bringing rowdies under control in 2004 when he was the then Joint Commissioner of the North Zone of Chennai during the period when harassment by rowdies was rampant in Chennai. He handled notorious rowdies like Gate Rajendran, Tyson Sekar and Bhaskar Vadivelu. He also served as Assistant Commissioner in North Chennai for four years. In 2010, when he was the Commissioner of Coimbatore, he was promoted to the post of North Zone IG.
He was later promoted to Additional DGP of the Coast Guard. He is credited with devising various schemes for the rehabilitation of prisoners during his tenure as Head of Prison Department. He was the DGP of the Fire and Rescue Services Department and held various posts as the DGP of the Railway Police.
Sylendra Babu has received various awards including the President's Award for outstanding service in his field, the Prime Minister's Award for his life-saving services, the Chief Minister's Gallantry Award and the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force's Gallantry Police Medal. Even after the age of 53, Sylendra Babu alternates between huge cycling expeditions and swimming feats to promote fitness. The people of Tamil Nadu are proud that the Government of Tamil Nadu has appointed him as the present DGP of Tamil Nadu, Law and Order. He continues to be an inspiration for many, especially youth.
