Dist. Collector Sameeran inaugurates distribution of textbooks for students in Govt. and Govt.-aided schools in Coimbatore district
Coimbatore: Even as schools kick-started their admission process on Tuesday, Principals of the schools have been informed that textbooks can now be distributed to students. In Coimbatore district, books were distributed to 2,35,618 students studying in 1,386 Government and Government-aided schools. District Collector Sameeran inaugurated the distribution of books by handing over Classes 10 and 12 textbooks on Tuesday.
Principals have been instructed to adhere to appropriate social distancing safety measures in schools while admitting students and to also provide textbooks immediately without making parents wait. Usually, textbooks are provided with the bookcases but due to the change of regime in the State, only books are being distributed to schools since a photo of former Chief Minister Eddapady K Palanisamy has been imprinted in the old bookcases.
A Government High School Principal said, 'Along with admission work, a mark certificate is also issued for Class 10. For Class 9, the maximum marks obtained by students in each subject in their quarterly and half-yearly examinations are calculated for Class 10. For students who did not write the exam and were not given a 'Pass,' 35 marks were awarded. This is not a score certificate issued by the Department of Examinations. It is signed by the respective School Headmaster and issued only for Class 11 admissions and Polytechnic admissions.'
