Coimbatore: An old man was injured in a bear attack at Thaimudi estate near Valparai. Thus, the people of the area are frozen in fear.


Coimbatore: An old man was injured in a bear attack at Thaimudi estate near Valparai. The people of the area are frozen in fear.

Periyasamy, 66, a resident of Thaimudi Estate near Valparai in Coimbatore district, is working as a gardener at Moody's Estate Bungalow. As usual, he went to work in the bungalow todayand was on duty in the bungalow when a bear suddenly came there in the morning and attacked the old man. In this he could not bear the pain and screamed loudly. Immediately, the bear left him and entered into the nearby tea forest.

Upon learning of the incident, members of the public rushed to the scene and took him to the hospital as he was injured by the bear.

The forest department led by Manampalli forest ranger Manikandan came there knowing the information. According to doctors, Periyasamy's left arm was injured in the attack. The forest department is engaged in the task of driving away the bear as per the orders of Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Health Raj Xavier. The incident has caused great panic among the people of the area.
