2,577 bottles of liquor seized by the Prohibition police destroyed in presence of excise officials in an unused pond near Pollachi.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore and Pollachi Prohibition police have registered a case and confiscated liquor bottles which were being sold on the black market in various parts of the district since last year.
These were Liquor bottles which were being hoarded and sold illegally, and liquor bottles which were smuggled in vehicles from other districts.
The confiscated liquor was kept at the police station. Coimbatore district collector Sameeran ordered the destruction of the liquor and hence 2,577 bottles of liquor seized by the police were dumped in an unused pond in the presence of Deputy Superintendent of Police Sundarajan and Divisional Excise Officer Chandra at the Ponnapuram, near Pollachi. Prohibition police said action would be taken to find those who continue to sell alcohol illegally.
