CAPA requests not to levy penalty for delayed May 2021 payment to TANGEDCO during lockdown
Coimbatore: In a press release by the Consumer Awareness and Protection Association (CAPA) it said, "Minister of Electricity issued orders to the consumers with regard to pay the consumption arrears for May 2021 bill, by taking meter reading and the same be sent to TANGEDCO offices by whatsapp to know the consumption charges.
We thank you for extending the deadline for payment of the May 2021 bill to 15th June 2021. But Tamil Nadu Govt. extended lockdown from 14th to 21st June, 21st June to 28th Juneand now from 28th June to 5th July 2021. In these circumstances, the consumers in Tamil Nadu will not violate Govt. of Tamil Nadu’s appeal to the public , not to go out due to the second wave of coronavirus. Several print media highlighted the facts of the consumers not paying the bill beyond June 15thand consequently the officials told the consumers that the bills can be paid with penalty/delayed fees.
In addition to this, with ref to a print media news TANGEDCO officials issued a press release during the fourth week of June 2021 that the previous month reading be taken as the bill payment for June 2021. This press release is too late to issue."
It added, "In these circumstances, TANGEDCO started levying a penalty for the consumers who haveremitted the bill, after 15th June 2021across Tamil Nadu. The consumers cannot pay the bill in section offices of TANGEDCO during the lockdown period since they are instructed not to come out of their houses. In this regard, it is suggested ,not to levy penalty for this May 2021 bill and for any other successive bills till normalcy is restored in the State of Tamil Nadu.
It is also requested to take action to adjust the penalty amount received from the consumers for the May 2021 bill, in the next bill to be paid in the Month of July 2021. Consumer Awareness and Protection Association requests the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to take action, not to levy penalty for delayed TANGEDCO consumption charges during this coronavirus lockdown and to stop the collection of penalty amount for any month in future till normalcy is restored in the State of Tamil Nadu."
