CII Tamil Nadu organises E-Session on Ecopreneur: Restoring Water for Future online
Coimbatore: CII Tamil Nadu, today organised an E-Session on Ecopreneur: Restoring Water for Future, (26 June 2021) as part of World Environment Day.
The UN encourages organizations and individuals to host and promote environmental aspects throughout the year. Hence CII Tamil Nadu – Sustainability Group has decided to spread its initiatives over the years.
Speaking at the Session Vikas Brahmavar mentioned that water management solutions and technology are available in vast, but is important to influence human engineering, the mindset of individuals to consume treated water. People drink treated water when they go abroad but not in India. Speaking about the vast activities that can be done by capturing lakhs of water that are released into sewage, Mr Vikas assured that there is a lot of scope of reusing water, mainly from apartments and buildings.
Sikandar Meeranaik mentioned water is available in abundance. It only needs minor technological intervention. “Dont add bore wells. Recharge it” he mentioned giving examples of various bore wells being recharged in various parts of Karnataka including some parts in Coimbatore & Krishnagiri. If borewells are recharged, farmers can do cropping all year around, adds Sikandar.
Arun Krishnamurthy highlighted that collaboration is the key when it comes to working on environmental issues. He highlighted the Chennai model, where Scientific revival of water bodies were looked at in reviving lakes including simple and focused interventions like jute layering in lake shores to reduce erosion. He emphasized on the importance of studying each water body or natural reservoirs patterns while restoring so it will become a natural habitat for that body. He also mentioned that fighting for mindspace with people is a real challenge and the environment often doesn't get space in people’s minds while importance is given to everything else. Environment needs our primary attention, he stressed.

George Rajkumar, Convenor, CII TN Sustainability & Water Panel & Country President, Grundfos Pumps (P) Limited championing the CII #PledgeforPlanet added his remarks on the role we play today to ease the planet and recover the planet. George flagged that we are the only generation who can repair and save the planet for the future generation. He added that the CII #PledgeforPlanet will work in this way in areas of energy, water, biodiversity and carbon emissions reduction.
