"3,550 people arrested in 15 days in criminal cases in city's West Zone:" West Zone IG Sudhakar
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Police have been conducting intensive surveillance in Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Namakkal districts.
Under the supervision of West Zone IG, R Sudhakar, a press release was issued on behalf of the Coimbatore DIG, Muthusamy which stated stern action will be taken against those involved in various illegal activities, including sale of ganja, illicit liquor and gambling.
Accordingly, in the last 15 days, 1,956 cases of ganja sales, smuggled liquor and gambling were registered in the districts under the West Zone of which 3550 people were arrested. 1,750 cases and 7,508 litres of smuggled illicit liquor were seized. 2,12,497 litres of brandy and 33 kg of ganja were seized of 19,451 litres of illicit liquor.
43 were arrested in ganja cases and 806 people were arrested in 167 cases of gambling with Rs. 78 lakh confiscated. A total of 565 vehicles were seized including 110 four-wheelers and 455 two-wheelers that have been used for various criminal activities in the region.
