Coimbatore: The Indian Chamber of Commerce, Coimbatore has made a plea to the state government to relax the lockdown in Coimbatore as its affecting every aspect of life which is under severe economic pressure.

In a release ICCI said, "The entire segment of Trade, Industry, Service and Common man are affected due to lockdown restrictions announced on account of controlling the COVID 19 spread throughout. In Coimbatore, due to long lockdown restrictions from 1st week of May to last week of June, loss of business and production caused unbearable hardship to Trade and Industry.

Every entrepreneur face huge trouble in day to day business activities during lockdown. When in other districts and places in our Country all kept opened many customers prefer to buy the products from outside markets. This causes more damage to the regional entrepreneurs to a greater extent.

A delegation from our Chamber led by our President Shri C Balasubramanian met the District Collector Dr G S Sameeran, IAS, met on 22nd June 2021 and pleaded for his intervention to take up this issue with his recommendation to the Government and get relaxation in lockdown particularly to keep all the shops opened from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm and all types of industries from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. The delegation also explained that relaxation will help the business communities to check out stocks, accounts, and also for compliance of the statutory commitments. Members of the delegation assured that strict standards of COVID protocols will be maintained at all levels and places.

Patiently, hearing our pleas the District Collector assured to take up this issue with the authorities concerned and to do the needful.

We have also appealed to the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu pleading to consider relaxations in number of working hours and number of workers in all the shops and all types of industries in Coimbatore."
