Fire Dept. conducts safety drill during natural disasters ahead of south west monsoon in Valparai
Coimbatore: With the onset of the southwest monsoon in Valparai area of Coimbatore district, a safety drill was held by the Fire Department on how public could protect themselves when there is flooding of rivers.
The fire brigade led by the Tahsildhar Rajan raised awareness on the Koozhangal river to demonstrate to public on how casualties can be prevented if there is flooding of the Nadumalai river which could pose a threat to houses along the river bank.
The firefighters demonstrated on how to save someone who falls into the river, tying a rope from one end of the river bank to the other, saving someone who has been pulled in by the flood, how anyone swept away by the river can escape with some basic equipment and how to escape using an empty water can if one is being washed away by the floods.
The Fire Department officers also raised awareness on how quick first-aid could save a life.
They demonstrated on how to rescue a person who has been swept away by the floods, bring them ashore, provide first-aid and then rush them to hospital by ambulance.
