It is disappointing as small businesses continue to be banned from operating: FOCIA
Coimbatore: FOCIA in a letter to the TN CM MK Stalin said they welcome the public welfare programs announced by the current government.
In a letter to the CM they said, "Currently the lockdown in Tamil Nadu has been extended till 27.06.2021. However, we expected that all small businesses in the Coimbatore district would be allowed to operate with a limited number of employees. It is disappointing to us that only small businesses are being shut down more and more while all the big factories are continuing to operate throughout the lockdown.
Trouble for small businesses due to curfew:
1. Most small businesses operate in rented premises. Whether you work or not, rent, interest, electricity bills, loan installments should all be paid. When the industry becomes inoperable, we are unable to cope with these costs.
2. Workers who depend on us to lose income without work. We feel compelled to help them with something.
3. In the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka, all industries were allowed to operate during the lockdown. Currently, businesses are operating in Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and other states. In Coimbatore alone, we will lose market share as small businesses are shut down. Tamil Nadu lags behind in industrial development.
4. Despite the Coronavirus impact last year, no new assistance has been announced for small businesses and we have not received any credit assistance. Currently, no coronavirus loan assistance has been announced for small businesses alone.
5. The Reserve Bank has announced that those who have already availed loans under the TD65 scheme can avail loans up to 10 per cent more. But allocating Rs 46,000 crore alone is not enough. According to statistics, if at least Rs 1.27 lakh crore is allocated, all existing borrowers will be able to get new loans.
6. Some industries producing essential commodities are allowed to operate during lockdown. However, due to the closure of shops selling tools and inputs, only a few licensed small businesses are able to operate. 95% of businesses are closed.
7. Raw materials such as steel, cast iron, aluminum, etc. are not sold. But even when there is no demand, the price of raw materials only continues to rise during the lockdown
They alleged that small businesses are falling further into debts. They requested the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to allow all small businesses across Tamil Nadu to operate immediately with 50 per cent staff. As small businesses are closed for 49 consecutive days they requested a waiver of electricity bills for at least two months.
