Five tipper lorries confiscated for speeding near Devambadi Valasu near Pollachi and fined Rs 3.40 lakh by RTO
Coimbatore: There have complaints by public that rocks are being smuggled out of quarries through areas including Devambadi Valasu near Pollachi and that lorries carrying rocks are speeding through the countryside. The people of the area seized 5 lorries with Kerala registration number which were transporting rocks to Kerala via Devambadi Valasu yesterday. Following this, the Pollachi Regional Transport Officers went there and confiscated 5 lorries which were carrying heavy loads and speeding without proper permission.
The lorry owners were also fined Rs 3 lakh 40 thousand. Groundwater in Pollachi And nearby areas are being affected by stone quarries operating without permission. Thus, the farmers and the public have demanded that the Revenue Department and the Minerals Department officials should inspect and take appropriate action to put an end to this.
