In Pollachi, jabbed people demanded hefty cash to get certificates
Coimbatore: While getting vaccines against Covid-19 and certificates for the people jabbed seemed tough in several districts, few people in Pollachi say it is even tougher for them as they were demanded hefty cash for receiving certificates.
Manoj and his colleagues working at Biogrow, agricultural product exporters, say they have been vaccinated against Covid yet demand a sum of 4,000 rupees to receive their certificates.
“We got our jabs of Covishield in 18 plus category under the camp organised by Coco men’s coir association earlier this week. As many as 13 working staff in our firm, all above 18 plus got our first dose of vaccine. However, we were demanded four thousand rupees by the organization that provided vaccines to us, to receive our vaccination certificates” Manoj told Simplicity.
At a time when people across the country complain that they got no vaccination certificates even after 27 days, the incident that happened in Pollachi has come as a shock. Balakrishnan, HR of Bio Grow, who was also the beneficiary, says the company has lodged a complaint against the association to district police.
He said, "We lodged a complaint to the district police to take action against them and get us certificates. However, we were directed to complain to the SP office."
A healthcare official who spoke on condition of anonymity said the matter shall be taken into consideration once the case is filed. The beneficiaries also say they have not got any responses from Covid helplines too.
