Popular mall fined Rs. 55,000 for lockdown violation in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Government has banned shops in malls from operating during lockdown. Brookefields Mall located in the 25th ward which is, Krishnaswamy Road in Coimbatore Central Zone reportedly had allowed restaurants in the mall to be open.
The Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner who was informed of the violation immediately ordered a flying squad to conduct a surprise inspection of the relevant business premises on Thursday. It was discovered that 10 restaurants had continued to be open and conducting business right through the lockdown period. Following this, authorities ordered the closure of all the restaurants and imposed a fine of Rs. 5,500 on each shop. Officials stated that a total of Rs. 55,000 was collected as fines.
