Coimbatore: The newly-appointed Coimbatore District Collector K S Sameeran conducted a surprise inspection at the Pollachi Government Hospital, on Friday.

Later, while addressing the media, the Collector said that the number of people infected with Covid-19 in Coimbatore district since May was over 4,000 which amounts to 38 percent.

"Infections have reduced to 13 percent due to ongoing preventive measures. In urban, municipal and rural areas, door-to-door inspections and treatment of infected people are being carried out. The municipality has also ordered fines to be imposed on violators in rural areas. Action will be taken against those who do not wear face masks and do not follow the guidelines imposed by the Government even if lockdown is relaxed.
