Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation is all set to kick-start a mass cleaning drive during the lockdown period which has been enforced by the Tamil Nadu Government to curb the second wave of Covid-19.

Several such drives have been taken by the Corporation, earlier.
Sources say the CCMC had appointed engineers besides Zonal Officers to monitor the activities that are set to begin in three places on Friday. The mass drive also covers clearing of illegal dumping of garbage and construction debris besides cleaning adjoining street roads. Street sweepers, compactor vehicles, battery operated vehicles etc are to be used in the mass drive.
The mass cleaning drive is aimed at curbing communicable diseases, where tonnes of debris are also to be removed. The Corporation will begin the mass cleaning drive from Friday in Ward 63 in south, while wards including 6,14 and 22 in West will also be covered. The drive aims to cover South and North wards, besides the Central zone of the city.
