Chithiraichavadi check dam floods in Thondamuthur area
Coimbatore: Due to heavy rains in the catchment areas, the water level in the Chittiraichavadi dam was high and resembled a heavy waterfall.
Southwest monsoon has intensified and heavy rains have been lashing the Western Ghats causing flooding at the Chithiraichavadi dam.
The Meteorological Office has forecast heavy rains in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Nilgiris and other districts along the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu due to the intensification of the southwest monsoon in Kerala.
The sky was overcast for the last two days with light showers and heavy showers in some parts during the night. In Coimbatore district, heavy rains lashed the Western Ghats and its catchment areas. Due to this, the Kovai Kutralam Falls, an eco-tourist destination in the Coimbatore district was flooded. Farmers were overjoyed since the water level in the river had increased.
With the water level of Siruvani increasing due to continuous rains in the catchment area, the main source of drinking water in Coimbatore is replete. The district has received good rainfall over the last two days in the city and suburban areas.
