Couple arrested for selling ganja in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: A couple in love was caught red-handed selling ganja in Coimbatore to obtain money for themselves to travel around the country.
The Peelamedu police led by Sub-Inspector Rajkumar were on patrol on Wednesday when they spotted a young man standing and talking with a young girl in an empty field on Viriyampalayam road, next to Nehru Nagar.
On suspicion, the police summoned and questioned them. Since both contradicted each other while answering, the police searched their bag and discovered ganja in it, which was reportedly for sale. The couple were immediately taken to the police station for questioning. The arrested girl has been identified as Vinodini (21), daughter of Balamurugan of Pudukkottai district and the boy is Surya Prasad (21) alias Surya,
Surya Prasad alias Surya who is a third-year student at a private college in Coimbatore was found to be a part-time ganja trader. Vinodini, also known as Tamanna who has been working as a nurse at a popular hospital in Coimbatore was allegedly helping her boyfriend sell ganja. It was revealed that the two had smuggled the ganja with plans to sell it, since it was easy for her to move about being a nurse and police would not suspect that she was involved with any illegal activity.
The investigation by the police further revealed that the two had rented a house in the Nehru Nagar area next to Peelamedu in Coimbatore. The police arrested the two and seized 2.250 kg of ganja from them and remanded them in jail.
