Coimbatore International Airport serves the aviation needs of not only Coimbatore district but also people of the surrounding seven districts. Post 'Covid-19' second wave outbreak, flight services have been badly affected. At present only 'Air India' and 'Indigo' airlines are providing few services in the domestic sector. The demand for vaccination doses has increased rapidly and due to this, the State government is continuously taking various steps in acquiring vaccines for Tamil Nadu.

In this regard, 'Indigo' Airlines has played a major role in bringing vaccination doses to Coimbatore.

Airline sources at Coimbatore International Airport say, "Mostly vaccination doses required for Coimbatore and surrounding districts are being sent via road transport only. But during the month of June, in the past 15 days alone, more than 400 Kgs of 'Covaxin' and 'Covishield' vaccines have arrived at Coimbatore International Airport from Mumbai and Hyderabad through 'INDIGO AIRLINES' and the same was delivered seamlessly to the consignee."

"Air Cargo Complex at Coimbatore International Airport is always on the alert to attend to the medical supplies particularly the movement of vaccination consignments. Strict monitoring and extremely quick delivery of the vaccines right from the aircraft offloading it, till it reaches the consignee are taken care of Pictures of vaccine cargo handled at Coimbatore Airport has been tweeted by the Airport Authority of India in its official Twitter handle," added sources.
