Alcohol lovers going from Coimbatore to Palani to buy alcohol: Intensive surveillance at the district borders
Coimbatore: Coronavirus infections are on the rise in 11 districts, including Coimbatore, and other districts have been given more relaxation in lockdown other than these 11 districts.
Tasmac stores have been opened in all the districts except the 11 districts including Coimbatore by following the Coronavirus prevention rules.
A Tasmac store has been opened in Palani taluk of Dindigul district near Coimbatore and Tirupur districts. Liquor lovers are flocking to Palani from Coimbatore via Pollachi and Udumalaipettai as Tasmac stores are not open in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts. There are complaints that some people buy liquor and sell it at high prices in Coimbatore district. To prevent this, the district administration along with the health department and the police are conducting intensive monitoring in the border areas of the district.
A district administration official said, "All the border areas in Coimbatore district are being monitored since the lockdown. Currently, the areas coming under Coimbatore district via Tirupur and Pollachi border are being closely monitored to check those buying liquor from Palani. Coronavirus testing is also being done for those who require"
