Girl ends life by suicide in Coimbatore over petty squabble with brother for TV time
Coimbatore: A Class 9 student ended her life tragically by hanging herself after a petty dispute with her brother over watching TV.
Balakumaran, a farmer from Venkatapuram area near Sulur had two children, a son and a daughter. The siblings were watching TV on Monday when an argument broke out between the two. Divyadarshini (14), a Class 9 student reportedly became depressed over the squabble and reportedly tried to end her life by hanging herself with a duppatta, when no one was at home.
Her mother was shocked to see the girl hanging upon entering the house. On hearing the mother's screams, neighbors rushed to the spot and rescued the young girl who was then immediately rushed to the Coimbatore Government Hospital.
Divyadarshini died on Monday, after attempts to save her life at the hospital failed. The Sulur police have registered a case based on the complaint by mother Achchammal (38) and are investigating the incident. The incident cast a pall of gloom in the neighbourhood apart from shocking both family and friends.
