PG medical students protest peacefully at Coimbatore Medical College wearing black badges; Demand hike in salary and stipend
Coimbatore: More than 50 senior medical students studying at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital wore black badges in a peaceful protest at the hospital premises demanding a salary hike. Their complaint was that doctors working in Government-aided private hospitals were paid up to Rs. 70,000 a month but medical students at Government Hospitals were not even being paid half of that amount.
They opined that the students who completed MBBS were being paid only Rs. 20,000 and that it should be increased to Rs. 30,000. They also demanded an increase in stipends and said that Tamil Nadu was the lowest-paying state in India. Therefore, they demanded an increase of 10 percent per annum.
