Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry request to implement HC Decision for HT Consumers

Coimbatore: The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore in a press release whole heartedly welcomed the various measures you are taking for containing Covid in our State.

They further stated, "And also, you have been very kind to extend various reliefs to MSMEs in this last one month. Whereas our industrial segment has been affected very badly, due to the ongoing lock down, and resultant closure of factories. Worst affected are HT Consumers, with regard to payment of Maximum Demand (M D charges).

The Madras High Court issued its Order allowing levy of 20 percent of the fixed charges as M D charges. From the first wave of Covid which affected the economy to a great extent, one year back, industrial consumers have been requesting the TN Government to implement the HC Order. By regulating this law, the financial burden of HT consumers, particularly in the MSME segment, will be reduced to a great extent. Many States have provided this relief."

It added, "For information of our Chief Minister, the M D charges have been waived to HT Consumers in various States at various levels in U.P., Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat etc. The details of such relief provided, have been enclosed separately. Tamil Nadu is one of the most important States with a high number of MSMEs and Industrialists who are pioneers in manufacturing needs. Hence this support is required during these most challenging times.

The Government is doing excellent work in implementing proactive steps in strengthening our State. This relief will certainly save several thousands of Industrial HT consumers to a great extent. We also suggest having a Webinar session with the Minister for Electricity and other concerned officials which will help to understand better about this issue."
