The Nilgiris: The carcass of male striped hyena was discovered on Sunday morning along the Achakarai Road near the Masinagudi bridge in the Mavanalla beat, Masinagudi Range which is located some 30-kilometres from Ooty.

Eye witness state that the carcass was lying just by the road side on a fallen tree trunk. A post-mortem examination was subsequently arraigned for.
Results of the autopsy brought to light that the striped hyena could possibly be a victim of a vehicle hit and run case. On examination of the carcass a slight injury on its face and mouth was noticed by the team of experts. The team of specialists who performed the post-mortem confirmed the presence of internal bleeding. The deceased animal also suffered heavy hemorrhage, the team of experts confirmed. After conducting the post-mortem, the carcass was buried.
A case has been registered. Forest Range Officer (FRO), Masinagudi has formed a special team to carry out an investigation to trace down the vehicle involved in this accident.
