Trucks that carried brick from sealed kilns illegally seized in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: The revenue department officer from Thudiyalur Akash Kumar on a tip off inspected the sight of brick kilns on the peak hours on Thursday only to seize three trucks from carrying bricks illegally from sealed kilns.
The seized vehicles were however produced to Thadagam police custody.
Two lorry drivers were remanded while one fled the spot.
Sources say that all the three trucks have been illegally transporting bricks from kilns that are already sealed by the former Coimbatore collector following the order of Madras High Court. The Madras High Court had ordered closure of 180 brick kilns in Thadagam valley as it was alleged to be running without license and against the rules of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.
Activists say they alerted the district collector upon seeing the trucks carrying and that was followed with action by the Coimbatore north revenue officer along with DSP. Ganesh, an activist, says the kiln owners are continuing their work even after the court had ordered it shut. They are functioning at nights thinking it might not be known to others. He also demanded that this must be stopped immediately.
