Man arrested for stealing the goddess' necklace pretending to worship in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Man who pretended to worship the deity for a long time at a temple near Coimbatore stole the jewelry from the idol and was caught by the public and handed over to the police. The incident has caused a stir in the area.
Police said the Amman temple is located at Neelikonampalayam, Singanallur Coimbatore. A person was seen standing for a long time in front of an idol this morning. Then the priest stood outside the temple because there were not many people in the temple. The unidentified man then grabbed the necklace and tried to slip away. When the priest returned to the temple, he was shocked to find that the jewels had disappeared.
When the priest shouted for help, the public chased and caught the man. When he was investigated it was revealed that he had stolen the necklace. A complaint was lodged with the Singanallur police. Police rushed to the spot and took the man to the police station who tried to steal the necklace. The suspect was identified as Senthilkumar (38) of Ondipudur, Sungam. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
