Corporation health officials conduct compulsory Covid-19 tests for motorists roaming unnecessarily across the city flouting lockdown rules
Coimbatore: In a strict move to ensure the public adhere to lockdown rules, people flouting Covid-19 lockdown safety rules in Coimbatore and motorists on two-wheelers were stopped and forced to undergo Covid tests.
Although the spread of the virus has been declining in Coimbatore district in the last few days, the Covid-19 case count is still high compared to other places in Tamil Nadu, with casualties also recorded as high in the state.
Coimbatore roads witnessed an increase in traffic flow across the city with lockdown rules being eased with regard to grocery, vegetable, meat and fruit stalls being allowed to operate so that people do not suffer from lack of essential items. Following this, public began to freely roam on two-wheelers and cars.
The Corporation was instructed to immediately stop the public from roaming unnecessarily by ordering Covid-19 tests for those flouting the rules. Corporation health officials camped near check posts, stopped motorists and collected their mucus samples. Similarly, on all major roads, health inspectors have been ordered to stop and make people undergo compulsory Covid-19 tests for flouting lockdown rules.
