Brain dead man in Coimbatore gives lease of life to 8
Coimbatore: Family of brain dead Coimbatore man gives lease of life to 8 by donating his vital organs. R. Chenthamarai, a tailor by profession met with an accident in Sivasakthi Nagar Road, Singanallur on Sunday morning. After being administered first aid, the 51-year old resident of Singanallur was shifted to Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) for specialised treatment. According to a statement released by the hospital, the patient did not respond to treatment.
Subsequently, on Tuesday the patient was declared brain dead. The family of the patient came ahead and expressed desire to donate the vital organs of the head of the family.
Multi organ transplant surgeons and team harvested heart, liver, kidneys, eyes, skin and bone from the body of the deceased in accordance with the regulations prescribed by the transplant authority, Government of Tamil Nadu.The harvested organs, liver and one kidney were transplanted at KMCH, another kidney was sent to a private hospital at Vellore. Heart was sent to a private hospital in Chennai. Eyes, skin and bones were sent to private hospitals at Coimbatore.
