Exorbitant fee being charged for Coronavirus treatment at Coimbatore Manu Hospital; Another complaint filed at District Collector's Office
Coimbatore: One more person lodged a complaint at the District Collector's office regarding medical treatment charges being levied at the Manu Hospital in Sungam, Coimbatore for the treatment of Coronavirus infection. Several complaints were made to the district administration that private hospitals in Coimbatore are charging high fees for Coronavirus treatment. The district administration has already taken action against two hospitals, Muthus and Lakshmi. Complaints against three more hospitals, including Coimbatore Manu Hospital are being investigated.
In this case, a complaint has already been lodged with the District Collector against the hospital. Marimuthu, a resident of Coimbatore's Kuniyamuthur area lodged a complaint at the District Collector's office stating that his neice Anandi, son-in-law Chinnathurai and sister-in-law Karpagam were admitted to Manu Hospital due to Covid. Anandi and Chinnathurai tragically succumbed to the virus, while his sister-in-law was transferred to another hospital. For the treatment of the infected three people, the Manu Hospital management had generated a bill of Rs. 29 lakhs.
Marimuthu complained that the receipt given to him was only for 10 lakhs and the hospital administration has refused to provide a bill for the remaining Rs. 19 lakhs. He also alleged that they were not allowed to pay the bills through online transfer and only cash payment was demanded. Marimuthu also said that only nurses at the hospital were treating patients.
Hence, Marimuthu petitioned the District Collector to direct the hospital to provide all the bills and take necessary action against the hospital for the exorbitant treatment charges. While the hospital has already been named in two earlier complaints regarding collection of exorbitant charges, today’s complaint with the district administration is the third against the same hospital. Authorities are investigating the charges following the complaints received against the hospital.
