Coimbatore: Police have arrested a lorry driver who was selling liquor smuggled by lorry from Karnataka near Sulur. Rs. 2 lakh in cash and Rs. 2.75 thousand rupees worth of liquor bottles were confiscated and the man has been jailed.

Sulur police have received a tip-off that illegal liquor was being sold in the Muthugoundenpudur area near Sulur in Coimbatore district. Following the information, the police launched an intensive patrol in the area. Police then went to the spot where they saw a crowd near a lorry parked near a private company in the Muthugoundenpudur area. Those who were standing in the crowd at the time saw the police and fled from there.

Following this when police questioned the truck driver he gave contradictory answers during the interrogation. The lorry driver was then brought to the Sulur police station. Gandhi, 34, of Tenkasi, smuggled liquor from Karnataka in a vehicle and sold it to north-indian workers who work for a private company in the Sulur area. The lorry driver had admitted to selling bottles of liquor.



Following this, the Sulur police registered a case against the lorry driver Gandhi and confiscated Rs, 2.74 lakh worth of high value liquor bottles and Rs. 2 lakh from him. They were later produced in court and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Jail.
