"Covid-19 cases in Coimbatore drops to 60 percent; no vaccine stock at present:" Minister K N Nehru
Coimbatore: The Urban Development Minister, K N Nehru held a consultative meeting and study on Monday to discuss various Covid-19 control measures in Coimbatore Corporation area.
The consultative meeting was attended by Food and Civil Supply Minister, S Sakkarapani and Forest Minister Ramachandran along with the Coimbatore District Collector, Corporation Commissioner and key officials.
Minister K N Nehru later addressed the media saying, "Chief Minister M K Stalin had twice visited Coimbatore to inspect Coronavirus prevention work. Currently, the prevalence of Covid infections in Coimbatore has dropped to 60 percent. Medicines required for large hospitals for black fungus have also been provided by the government. The issue of charging extra by private hospitals for Covid treatment was also discussed at the meeting held, today. The District Collector has assured that the collection of high medical charges by hosiptals is under control at present and steps will be taken to stop such collection of exorbitant fees."
"Necessary steps will also be taken to provide timely food to those in Coronavirus isolation camps in Coimbatore. The police have been instructed not to hold public meetings as relaxations have been allowed. I am visiting the Suez project contract in Coimbatore today and it was a policy decision of the government to cancel the Suez project but it will be the Chief Minister who will decide on this," reiterated Minister K N Nehru.
He also added that all existing vaccines in Tamil Nadu have been administered and tenders have been issued forvaccines. "In today's meeting, we also discussed the need to vaccinate rural areas once the vaccine stocks arrive. If municipalities had bought goods in the past at high prices, it would be investigated and action will be taken. The full focus of the state at present is to curb the spread of Coronavirus," stated the Minister.
Sivadas Meena, Principal Secretary, Department of Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply and Ministers Ramachandran and R Sakkarapani were present during the media briefing. Earlier, Urban Development Minister K N Nehru had issued an appointment order for 100 nurses with a salary of Rs. 10,000 to work during the Coronavirus pandemic.
