Case filed against woman under 6 sections for insulting traffic police in Chennai based on viral video on social networking sites
Coimbatore: A video of a woman fighting in the middle of the road, insulting the traffic police in Chennai, went viral on social media yesterday.
Police have registered a case against the woman and are taking steps to arrest her. Traffic police and law and order police routinely conduct vehicle inspections every day following the lockdown near the Chennai Chetpet signal. The incident went viral on social media yesterday morning when a woman was standing in the middle of the road who violently and disrespectfully abused a traffic policeman while the traffic police were conducting vehicle inspections and the video also aired on television.
The police said, "A young woman came in a car and her car was stopped and inspected. As the woman said she was going to buy fish, she was fined because it was not essential. Immediately the young woman called her mother over the phone. The woman got out of the luxury car, threw away the receipt given by the police and started abusing the police disrespectfully that she'll rip off the officer's uniform and kill him. The woman then picked up her daughter and got into the car they were in.
Related video footage spread on social media. The traffic police lodged a complaint with the police on the instructions of senior police officials. Police Inspector Chellappa has filed the case under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajmohan."
The case has been registered under the sections of threatening to kill, interrupting a government servant from working and violating government orders. As the woman described herself as a lawyer, the Bar Council has thus been informed of this. Details such as the woman's name are being collected. Police said action is being taken to arrest her. The incident has caused a great stir on social media.
