South Indian Spinners Association request CM to grant permission to operate spinning mills across Tamil Nadu
Coimbatore: The President of the South Indian Spinners Association, G S Venkatesh in a letter to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Stalin said, "The Government has been issuing a curfew with relaxations from May 10 to June 14 on the basis of measures taken to prevent the impact of Coronavirus infection in Tamil Nadu.
The Government of Tamil Nadu is taking special measures to control the spread of the disease through special camps for persons over 45 years of age and persons between 18 and 45 years of age, and persons with disabilities."
"It is very welcoming that all the districts have been able to meet the needs of the public by distributing vegetables, fruits and some essential items, uninterruptedly. The Government under your leadership has taken various serious measures through various departments on a war footing to curb the spread of the pandemic. On behalf of our Association, we thank you for this. We are obliged at this juncture to inform you that our members are following the orders of the Government of Tamil Nadu in a balanced manner.
We are advising our members to give 100 percent vaccination to all those working in our mills and we are also organizing the vaccination drives with the help of the Government of Tamil Nadu. With the curfew being extended for another week with some relaxations, our members have been keeping local and other state workers on the mill premises for a month without operating the mills, paying them and feeding them three times a day," explained G S Venkatesh.
He further added, "Employers are finding it very difficult to look after the workers when the mills are not functioning. Due to the current extended curfew, the workers in the mills are preparing to leave for their hometowns as they do not have jobs. If this situation continues, spinning mills in Tamil Nadu will be left in a state of severe labor shortage and paralysis. Thus, the spinner entrepreneurs are in fear of how they are going to save the industry and the workers in future.
Therefore, in view of this dangerous situation, we request the Government of Tamil Nadu to allow the workers to stay and work in the mills during the current lockdown period, following the standard operating procedures of the Central and State Governments. In addition, the Department of Electricity should be instructed to charge a minimum fee only for the recorded electricity demand of high voltage power users who have shut during the lockdown."
