Case filed against motorists involved in curfew violations in Coimbatore suburbs; Vehicles confiscated

Coimbatore: As many as 2,500 vehicles have been impounded and more than 2,500 vehicles have been impounded in the Coimbatore suburbs, according to the Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police.


Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police said in an interview that as many as 10,000 motorists involved in movement during curfew without valid reasons in the suburbs of Coimbatore have been prosecuted and 2,500 vehicles have been impounded during the curfew.

A program to provide coronavirusimmunization equipment to police and patrol personnel was held in Pollachi. Coimbatore District SP Selva Nagaratnam who attended the function handed over security equipment to the police. Following this, lunch was served to the public.

He later told reporters, 'Since the start of the full curfew in Tamil Nadu on May 10, about 3,000 cases of contagion have been reported so far in the suburbs of Coimbatore district. 'Similarly, about 10 thousand cases have been registered so far under the Motor Vehicle Act. A further 2000 two-wheelers and 500 four-wheelers were seized.

The number of infections in Coimbatore district has been on the rise since the onset of the second wave of corona. In this situation, the number of infections in Coimbatore district is gradually decreasing following the increase in control rules.



A total of 30 cases are being registered daily against those who hoard and sell bottles of liquor illegally during the curfew. The sellers are being prosecuted and action is being taken.

The public can report such activities to the Office of the Superintendent of Police. As Coimbatore district is on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, e-pass system is in place for persons coming to Tamil Nadu from Kerala via Coimbatore district.

Similarly coronavirus tests are mandatory to be allowed into the district on the order of the District Collector. For this purpose, check posts have been set up in the border areas by the Revenue Police and the Health Department and monitoring activities are being carried out', he said.
