Elephant kills estate night guard near Valparai: Valparai Forest Department investigates
Coimbatore: Elephant movement is on the rise in the Valparai area of Coimbatore district. Elephants have entered residential areas, grocery stores, noon meals centres, ration shops, eating and damaging food items causing fear amongst people.
Forest department has been involved in the task of driving away the elephants. Manickam, 60, who works as a Dennis bungalow night watchman in the second division of Waterfalls near Valparai. When he was on last night, one of the lone elephants that had left the forest entered the bungalow and wandered around.
The elephant unexpectedly attacked Manickam at around 4:00 am, in which Manickam died on the spot. Upon information the police and the forest department seized Manickam's body and took him to the Pollachi Government Hospital.
