Wild elephants break into tea estate workers' quarters in Valparai
Coimbatore: Pannimedu Tea Estate which is located near Valparai in Coimbatore district is home to over 600 people. Row houses have been provided for tea estate workers in the area. Rajambal and Kannammal are tea estate workers in the second section of the tea estate.

On Thursday morning, seven wild elephants attacked their section of the tea estate. On hearing the wild elephants rampage into their homes, Rajambal, Kannammal and two others ran out through the backdoor and survived. They informed the tea plantation guards who immediately chased the wild elephants away.
Locals in the area are in fear that the rampaging elephants could return during the night since the herd continues to camp in the nearby forest. They have informed forest officials and requested them to be on patrol in the area.
