Three arrested for trying to smuggle 2.5 tonnes of ration rice from Coimbatore to Kerala
Coimbatore: Three persons were arrested for trying to smuggle two and a half tonnes of ration rice from Thondamuthur to Kerala.
Vandikaranur is near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore district. Thondamuthur Police Inspector Satish Kumar received a tip-off that ration rice was being smuggled to Kerala through a mini tempo in the area. Following the information, the police led by Inspector Satish Kumar rushed to the spot and conducted a search. Then a tempo vehicle was intercepted and inspected. Then it was revealed that there was two and a half tons of rice in it. When the occupants of the vehicle inquired about this, they gave contradictory answers.
Following this, the police took the three of them to the police station and interrogated them. During the investigation, it was found that they were Rajesh 24 from Velandavalam area, Vallarasu 21 from KG Chavady, Kamalesh 19 from Sundarapuram area and they came to Thondamuthur area in a vehicle and tried to smuggle ration rice to Kerala by going to Kempanur, Kuppapalayam, Vandikaran.
Police arrested them and seized a tempo and a motorcycle with Kerala registration number from them.
