Five people, including brothers arrested for smuggling liquor from Karnataka.
Coimbatore: Five people, including brothers, were arrested for smuggling and selling liquor from Karnataka.
On the orders of Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Selvanagarathinam, police led by Periyanaickenpalayam Prohibition Inspector Balamurugan under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Sundarraj conducted an intensive patrol. They patrolled the Dasampalayam Government School area near Mettupalayam. They then inspected two cars and a van that came through. There were 420 bottles of liquor in those vehicles.

Police then confiscated bottles of liquor and the vehicles. Investigation revealed they were S. Azharuddin, 24, of SM Nagar, Mohammad Siddique, 24, (A) Mani Kandan, Srinivasan, 37, son of Subramanian, of Mettupalayam Kooduthurai hill, his brother Marimuthu, 32, and Sivakumar, 41, son of Thirunavukarasu, of the same area. It was learned that they were smuggled in liquor from Karnataka and sold in Coimbatore. Police have registered a case and arrested 5 people.
Police Sub-Inspector Silambarasan and police patrolled the road from Coimbatore Annur Sokkampalayam to Kakkapalayam. Manikandan, 24, son of Ramu, of Coimbatore, Velusamy, 45, of Annur Komarapalayam, Venkatesh, 20, and Nagaraj, 40, of Annur, were found in possession of liquor bottles. Following this, the police arrested all 4 of them. 1536 bottles of liquor were confiscated from them
