Trade Unions in Valparai protest to reduce working hours for tea estate workers to avoid risk of contracting Covid-19
Coimbatore: More than 50,000 workers are employed in tea plantations in Valparai in Coimbatore district. The second wave of the Coronavirus has affected a large number of tea estate workers with many succumbing to it.

This has caused much fear and panic among the workers. Hence tea plantation trade unions staged a protest at the Valparai Gandhi Statue premises at 2 pm demanding for work shifts to be only until 2 pm, prevent workers from travellingin lorries and to provide masks, gloves and sanitisers to all the workers.
