Tea plantation workers boycott work demanding job security


Coimbatore: The Karumalai Tea Garden is in Valparai, Coimbatore. Kanchamalai Tea Estate employs about 500 workers. Todaythe workers neglected work and staged a protest emphasizing various demands including basic care and medical care.



Upon information trade union joint committee chairman Valparai V Hameed held talks with tea estate management and workers.

Accordingly various demands were accepted to be followed during the Coronavirus period, including the provision of masks for workers, the provision of hand-washing liquid, the observance of social distancing and the maintenance of housing quarters. The workers went to work 2 hours later and their demands were met. DMK trade union leader Kozhikadai Ganesan was also present at the talks
