Three injured as explosves are set off accidentally in Coonoor
The Nilgiris: Three persons, Kannan (30), Abu (25) and Sri (10) were admitted to the Government Lawley Hospital after an explosive device was accidentally set off at Siddhi Vinayagar Temple Street in Coonoor, Nilgiris. Police are investigating the incident.
Over a 100 families live in the Siddhi Vinayagar Temple area near the Coonoor bus stand. Kannan and Abu were reportedly involved in making explosives with wires in a locked house when the device was accidentally set off. A 10-year old boy named Sri who was playing outside the house was critically injured along with the two men and all three were admitted to the Government Lawley Hospital in Coonoor.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Suresh and Inspector Prithviraj Raj conducted a thorough investigation with Kannan and Abu regarding the explosives.
A case has been registered against Kannan and Abu under sections 9B.1B.286 IPC and Prohibition of Mine Bombs for manufacturing country bombs without permission. Police said both men will be arrested after they are discharged from the hospital.
