In a move to stop the spread, health officials to reach out to doorsteps and closely monitor movements of public
Coimbatore: As the Coimbatore district is witnessing steady increase in fresh cases in terms of Covid, surpassing Chennai, health officials in the district have been instructed to ramp up their work in stopping the spread.
The district has been the worst hit and its positivity rate has also tripled in one month. In April, the district, according to the official sources within the health department, had a positivity rate below 10% and however, at present, the TPR increased to 30%.
A health official told Simplicity that all the officials have been instructed to work closely to stop the spread. “We might be reaching doorsteps, though they test negative and positive, irrespective of symptoms and ensure restriction in movement of Public to stop the spread” said the source.
Earlier, the district collector Nagarajan has said that the cases are likely to come down in June. Focusing mainly on Coimbatore, Erode and Tirupur, where the cases are increasing each day, the Tamil Nadu government had appointed new IAS officers to monitor the activities. Sidhique, Principal secretary and Commissioner of commercial taxes have been appointed as new IAS officer for Coimbatore to monitor the Covid related activities.
Health officials say they are most likely to work with the new officer and act according to his instructions. Another official source in the department commented that along with the news IAS officer, they are likely to conduct a containment strategy in the district to stop the spread. Doctors battling Covid and other medical ailments in the district cry foul and ask people to stay indoors to help the government in tackling the pandemic. A group of doctors and deans have also expressed concern over the situation and said if this continues, it will be a tough situation for all. Besides, senior journalists opine that a team from Greater Chennai Corporation would have to visit Coimbatore to help straighten the curve as they have done a great job in handling the situation there.
